Ruun Forrest, RUUN… | Movie

If you did not watch the move, go ahead and watch it because this post will spoil it!!!

Plus, for those who did not watch the movie… where have you been!? You are missing out! One of the best, most inspiring movies, I have ever watched! I hiiiighlyyyy, highly, suggest it!! ❤ I have watched it like 4 times…

I will start with one of my favourite quotes…

Jenny: Do you ever dream, Forrest, about who you’re gonna be?

Forrest: Who I’m gonna be?

Jenny: Yeah.

Forrest: Aren’t-aren’t I going to be me?

The first reason I absolutely adore this movie is because it perfectly depicts what life is… or how life is! The film is closer to reality than your average american happy-ending movies. “Forrest Gump” presents life realistically – with its ups and downs, the drama and the comedy, death and life, the failure and the success… Happy ending does not exist… happiness is part of life – not the end of life – just like sadness. When a movie finishes with a happy ending, I always wonder “And then what?”. “Are they still together? What happened?”.

I believe that life is an emotional roller coaster and death is the the ending, and sure is not happy! But is part of life, whether want it or not… I do not believe that somebody wants death, fyi! :p

The second reason, I love the movie is the character, of course: Forrest Gump.

Forrest was always thought to be a stupid guy because he was not doing things the conventional way! For many it will almost seem that he did not put any thought in what he was doing, when essentially he just did not overthink or overcomplicate things. And that was the main reason he was so successful! He was doing what he thought would be good and right for him! He failed, he was afraid and intimidated by people and situations, but he did not give up!

The way he speaks about life is very simple, wise and to- the -point! Think about it… Life is simple, we overcomplicating it!

Lieutenant Daniel Taylor: Have you found Jesus yet, Gump?
Forrest: I didn’t know I was supposed to be looking for him, sir.

Forrest: I don’t know if we each have a destiny, or if we’re all just floatin’ around accidental-like on a breeze. But I, I think maybe it’s both.

And now…. How many times we are told that what we do is stupid? Or what we are planning to do is too risky? Thousands of times… We have all been warned by our friends and family, when we are about to start something new is our life! Right? I know, they are concerned and they do that because they love us! Buut, the problem is how we perceive these warnings? Do we stop and abort the plan or are we determined to reach our goal?

I know is just a movie, and I am… too influenced.. but it really makes you think…

I am not saying that you have to be reckless, by any means! I am just saying that you do not have to let fear control you because fear is part of life and part of any fresh start! The unknown is intimidating, by definition! The important thing is what you think is right! Do you think that it will work, then go for it! You might fail, but then you know you tried! You might as well succeed and get what you want… and then all  these initial concerns will disappear!

Forrest: My mama always said, ‘Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.

Stop Waiting for Tomorrow!

I am not gonna say much… I just want to address something very obvious, that I just…literally…just realized! What is life! Oh, jeez… How pretentious does that sound?

But really, we’ve all read and talked and thought of what life is and how are life is gonna be, right? I did it numerous times… I spent hours fantasizing of how my life is gonna be, but I have never thought that my life is how I am now, how I live now, what I have at the moment and what I actually do today. Do you realize that?…. I did not! I really did not understand what it meant…. LIFE IS NOW, NOW… I mean, the future itself is shaped from the “now”!

Goals are just ideas in our brain! They do not really exist, until we achieve them and they become “tangible”, in a way… In that sense, is pointless to think about the future! OMG, how pointless, is to spend  your time thinking about scenarios! No matter how much you think about the future and how you imagine it,  nothing will happen, if you do not start doing something at the moment… And, let me tell you, even if you do start working towards a “goal”, at the end of the day, no one can assure you that you will get there – you might or might not!  What are you gonna do, then? Cry, take a step back? What?

I suggest, be happy with whatever happens… Get up and go for the next one… start working for the next one! Do not stuck in your failure… push yourself, everyday to a better you. That is success! That is LIFE! Your “Life” consists of what happens now and what happened before! quote-791953_1920Future is simply a word, that does not mean anything at all… future does not exist, in the first place.

Now, I can go back to sleep, cause I literally, woke up to write this! Yeah, when I close my eyes, my brain starts functioning in a very weird way! Do you also have that or am I the only weirdo!

Night, Night! 🙂

“Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.” ― Thomas Jefferson

What do you want in life? Take your time! Close your eyes, and think! What do you really LIKE doing? Be honest with yourself! Search for something that will make you happy, not your parents, your grandparents, your friends, but YOU! Find something that will make you lose the sense of time! When you adore something you never think of when it will finish! You love it and the best reward for that is the best result! Do not fall into the trap of trying to mimic other people… If you do not know what you like, then start with what you THINK you like… If it does not work, then it wasn’t meant to happen… then, go to the next one, until you are happy! That’s all that matters!

Go do your brainstorming, now! I am not kidding… go do it! Okay, I am waiting… take your time and then come back here to read the rest…

How was it? Did you come up with a plan? Listen, F-O-L-L-O-W I-T!!!!! DO IT! Nothing will bring you closer to how you want to be, other than you actually doing it! D-O-I-N-G!

Nothing will come by itself…. you are after your goals… you will create yourself! If do not act towards a goal, then your life will end up being shaped by the other! That is a FACT! Do you want that?

Plan – Think – Do – Happy!!!! It works!

“The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.” ― Jimmy Johnson

befunky-design2What is that “little extra”? I was always wondering! It seems like a lot of work! Extraordinary – it has to be something mind-blowing- otherwise is ordinary! Right?

But if you really think about it, these words do not make sense! They do not mean anything – no definition as far as I understand. What is ordinary? What is extraordinary? They can have multiple interpretations…

For me, extraordinary are the little, everyday things, that excite you! That’s all! Life is beautiful every minute! It can be ordinary or extraordinary! It is your choice! Make the most out of everything and stop comparing yourself with other people.

Comparison is a trap! Why are you envy and chase other people’s lives? Focus on your own life, see how you can make the most of what YOU HAVE!

Assess your premises and reach your conclusion! Do you want to have an “extraordinary” life? MAKE IT HAPPEN! DO whatever your heart desires, without thinking “oh, what people will say?” or “what my family will say?”. If your action does not hurt another person, then do it!

You are your own boss! Protect yourself! Manage yourself! Grow yourself!

These will bring you one step closer to that “extra”! Once you conquer your fears and stop the comparisons, then your life will be “extraordinary”!

“Grown ups are complicated creatures, full of quirks and secrets.” ― Roald Dahl

befunky-design3They are complicated! They are… They hide their emotions, their character, their opinion, in fear not to offend somebody, not to sound weird, not to be criticized.

Readers, they are afraid to be different and that is quirky all by itself! :p

It is funny because when I was a kid, I always wanted to be mysterious! I thought that this is cool! Because… you know… when you hide secrets, you immediately feel superior! It made me feel like a grown up! I thought adults were some type of alien; something interesting to discover! Well, now that I am technically an adult, I feel that there is nothing to explore – they are boring!

Am I an adult? Do I want to be one? I am confused! When I am with adults I feel like a 17 – year old, and when I am around teenagers I feel older… Am I dying! What is wrong with me?

I definitely overcome the perception of adulthood form child’s point of you. I mean, adulthood is more that being able to take the decision to go out, to drink a glass of martini, to be financially independent and to drive a car!

Adults…. adults… grown ups… Hmmm!

“Adulthood” – means sad human beings…. This is adulthood for me!Is it harsh? Does it make sense?

Well, I feel like most grown ups hate their lives – they dislike their job, they stuck in a routine, and even though, they have money, property and family, they are just “fine”. They are not truly satisfied with their lives… That is the problem!

I am afraid that I will end up like them, that’s why I am scared of  the adult responsibilities! Is that bad? How can I balance everything? I want to live in my cloud! Ok, it sounds like I am daydreaming, but all I am saying is that I do not want to lose my spontaneity, my desire to live, and my creativity. I do not want to drown in the societal adult roles! I feel the weigh on my shoulders! There is definitely pressure… How can I grow up, but not grow up?

I am not going to say I wish I was a child again, but I wish things were not as complicated, just like when I was a kid!

Do you think I search for something utopic? Do you think I am escaping life? That’s really a thing in my brain, and I want to get it out of my system!

“I care so much about everything that I care about nothing” ― William Saroyan

How many times are we overthinking? How many times have we tried to find solutions to our future imaginary problems? We’ve all done it! We isolate ourselves, even when we are around others, in an attempt to figure out all the “problems” and “solutions”.

In life, most of the times, there is a waiting period – there is that period when we cannot do anything, but be patient and wait. For example, the period before the exams, the period before that awesome trip, the period before that stupid project deadline, the period before the last day of school and so on… you get what I mean; the process – the LIFE- before the “big event”!

Come on, be realistic! You CANNOT do anything about the future; you cannot shrink the days! Why are you thinking what is going to happen, then? Think of what is happening now – enjoy now! Take care of now! If you have an actual problem now – something you do not like – change it now! Stop thinking about it! You know what makes you happy, so you know the solution!

I know it sound simple, but it is not easy! I am also failing most of the times, but now I know how to face it, and how to come back quickly!  I do not what to sound like a pro, and like I know everything, because I DO NOT! In these posts the first person I address is me.

Stop thinking so much of every single thing, stop making plans of what might happen, stop concentrating only on the negative possibilities, stop guessing the solution, stop torturing your mind! At the end of the day, all these concerns will get you nowhere, because these are not “real” problems! They do not exist in the actual world – these problems exist only in your brain!

Most of the times, the answer to the problem is way too simple. I am not saying that everything will be great, all the time! But what is meant to happen will happen! Why think too much about it! Life is about doing! You just have to wait, “do” life (not “think” life), and things will happen! 🙂

“I am trying!”, BUT “Are you trying the right way?”

What does the phrase “I am trying” mean? I cannot count the times I used this phrase, just to avoid thinking of an alternative, better, way to achieve my life goals.  For years, I was stuck into this mindset without even realizing it!

I wasn’t honest with myself! I was not trying the right way! The word “try” embodies the idea of multiple attempts… but it does not necessarily imply the repetition of the exact same thing, on the exact same area with the exact same way. Your goal is always the same, but the attempts should vary every time, otherwise you do not really try! For example, you enroll to the gym, you go for a month and then you stop! After a few months you do the exact same thing! Why? TRY something different, obviously gym does not work! Try dancing classes! 🙂befunky-design5

If you have tried numerous times and you seem to be stuck in a try-failure loop, then think of an alternative way to get where you want. You will be surprised! Sometimes the answer is simple and it is right before our eyes, but we cannot see it, just because we are trapped in bad habitual behavior!  Other example… I was trying to lose weight by doing things that I knew will never work!

You might say… “well, it worked before!” I agree! It might have worked before, but NOW it does not work! That is absolutely normal! We are humans, and as the years go by, we change both physically and mentally. Thus, we approach things differently, we have different tolerance level and less patience!

Be honest are you really trying or are you afraid to see other options! Life is beautiful! You can achieve your dreams in another way; MORE CREATIVE, MORE APPROACHABLE, MORE FUN AND MORE INTERESTING. The possibilities are endless!

Yesterdays: Past!

125We have all done it! I do not know why we humans do this! But, I assume that it has to do with the fully formed actions of the past. Let me explain… I guess is just a thing in our brain! We always focus on the things we did, and we never think of the things we are doing at the moment because we cannot see them… The past, involves actions that are completed and thus, are more visible. The past actions have a beginning, a middle and an end, so we think that we can judge them better. Well, at some extend, this is true! The problem is that we give way too much attention to the past! Judging, evaluating, criticizing, reevaluating, and we never give an ending.

A key is to realize that the present is also an action; a valuable action in progress! In fact, this action in progress is more important because it has the potential to be changed or corrected.

I used to “lock” myself in the past, feeling sad that I cannot change it! Thinking about yesterday’s regrets and mistakes is never healthy! GET OVER IT! You cannot change the actions of yesterday! Why stress about it!

The only thing you can do is, is find what YOU would like to do differently, what YOU think is wrong and TRY not to do the same mistake!

One day, you will comprehend that “past” is past and over! Only “now” matter, the most because now has the potential to make you happier than yesterday!

OK, I will start tomorrow! I promise!

quote1I cannot count the times I said that… I will start my diet tomorrow, I will start my paper tomorrow or Tomorrow, I will wake up early and I will go to the gym… And, I promise to myself that I will really commit to my routine! Countless, instances! Think about it! How many times did you say that, and in which occasions?

Well, let’s start form the beginning! First things first, keep in mind that when I say that I really believe it… I do not know what happens later and I forget about my cause and goal! Where did that positivity go?

I feel like I have to unravel it a little bit…

I cannot say what is the problem with everybody, but I believe that my problem derives from the phrase… fear of commitment. You learned that in order to achieve certain goals in life you have to give up other valuable things. A very classic and overused example is the gym! To commit to an exercise and a diet plan, you have to give up your favorite chocolate cake and your burgers! On top of that, you have to wake up early, hit the gym and then go to your 8-hour work! I am telling you, pretty soon you will give up on it! Now, that I think about it, is not that I am afraid of commitment, is just that I am not ready! and by ready I mean, that i do not really want to “commit”…

I am not saying that I enjoy being uncomfortable with my body or that I enjoy the low exam grades or that there is no room for improvement! All I am saying is that I do not really enjoy the inherent pressure of the word commitment! I hate the strictness of it! For me strictness does produce, the opposite results! Life is not strict, and I like that! You know what.. THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF IT! Imagine our world being strictly organized. Imagine if there was not room for spontaneity! That would have sucked!!

Your goals, my goals are very beautiful, but they should be achieved the right way! I cannot isolate myself to achieve my goals! I cannot distance myself from the people I love just to follow the program! One day, I may arrive at my destination but I will be a sad individual! With that in mind, I think that the initial positive and motivated attitude, whenever I start something, is just a way to disguise my anxiety and fear of failure! You know what…??! During the process, this fear of failure and anxiety will appear again and will stop me from achieving my goals…

So, the first step to a better me, is to realize that the world is not a strict place because it is not… So when i try to implement a strict program in this world, it is destined to fail, at some point! I can plan my workouts, papers, meetings around my life but definitely NOT my life around my workouts, meeting etc…. That will never work for me! These are not part of my world!

Embrace the spontaneity of your life! Find something you like, create a program that is suitable for you, eat that piece of cake, go to this trip… at the end of the day what really matters is to enjoy your life! That way you will achieve your goals, without even trying! 🙂

My favourite TEDx Talks is by Mel Robbins on how to stop screwing yourself over. This speech is my best friend when I go through tough decisions.

Her to-the-point advises are always in the back of my head. Decisions are always simple… BUUUTT, as she says SIMPLE means NOT EASY!

She really helped me find the confidence to purse my goals, as impossible as they may seem…

I love her because she does not pretend that everything will be fine…

Check her out… 🙂
